Product Software Engineer
- Hybrid
- Melle, Vlaams Gewest, Belgium
Job description
Be-Mobile is a European market leader in smart mobility solutions, headquartered in Ghent. Our technology helps cities and mobility providers tackle real-world challenges in parking, tolling, traffic and mobility.
To support our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Product Software Engineer who wants to do more than just write code. You’ll take end-to-end ownership of software solutions: from understanding the problem and making technical decisions to implementation, deployment and production follow-up.
You will work closely with Product to turn real-world needs into robust and maintainable software. You have the freedom to decide how to build solutions within our architectural direction and engineering standards, while being able to rely on experienced domain engineers whenever needed.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking the lead on technical problems, thinks beyond the ticket at hand and cares just as much about why we build something as about how we build it.
Responsibilities
Be-Mobile is looking for a Product Software Engineer who will:
Take end-to-end ownership of product features and solutions, from analysis and technical design to implementation, deployment and production follow-up
Own a product domain and act as the technical point of reference for it
Build and maintain software across the stack, with a strong focus on backend engineering while also contributing to frontend development
Translate product and business needs into practical, scalable and maintainable technical solutions
Work closely with Product Owners as a technical counterpart, helping shape solutions and making informed trade-offs between product value, complexity and technical sustainability
Challenge requirements and assumptions when you see opportunities for a simpler or better solution
Build software that is designed to run reliably in production and take responsibility for what happens after deployment
Contribute to our engineering practices around architecture, testing, CI/CD, deployment and operational reliability
Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted development, where they genuinely improve productivity and software quality
Share knowledge and contribute to raising the technical level of the team
Job requirements
What we’re looking for:
Strong software engineering experience, with a solid backend foundation and the ability to contribute across the stack
Proven experience independently designing, building, deploying and operating production software
A good understanding of modern SaaS applications and relevant concepts such as authentication, authorization, API design, distributed systems and multi-tenancy
Hands-on experience with modern development and delivery practices, including CI/CD, containerization and automated deployments
The ability to reason about architecture and technical trade-offs rather than simply applying patterns
A strong sense of ownership: you are comfortable investigating problems, getting to the root cause and deciding on an appropriate solution
A product mindset: you focus on solving the right problem, not just implementing the requested feature
The ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Familiarity with technologies such as Golang, Vue.js, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Elasticsearch. You don’t need to know every technology in our stack, but you should be able to pick up new technologies quickly
Curiosity about how AI is changing software engineering and an interest in using it to amplify strong engineering practices
Fluent in Dutch, with a good command of English
The skills that make a great Product Software Engineer in our team are:
You are the kind of engineer who can be given a problem and takes it from there.
You ask the right questions, understand the bigger picture and make informed technical decisions. You care about quality, maintainability and reliability, but you also know when a straightforward solution is better than an over-engineered one.
You don’t need to be an expert in every technology. What matters is that you have a strong engineering foundation, learn quickly and are comfortable working your way through unfamiliar problems.
You enjoy working close to the product and understand that good engineering isn’t just about writing good code. It’s about understanding the problem, challenging assumptions and building something that creates real value.
You are comfortable working in an environment where priorities can change, requirements aren’t always fully defined and your decisions can have a direct impact on software used by cities, municipalities and citizens.
Our Offer
As a fast-growing tech company, we work with cutting-edge technologies and we invest in durable and interesting careers where we map your professional growth on the opportunities within Be-Mobile.
You’ll feel at home if you share values like integrity and open feedback. Our young, trustworthy and passionate team players are curious to get to know you! Are you as well?
We provide a very interesting total remuneration package, flexible working hours and team initiatives, which we will explain during the selection process.
